Bringing your Dog

It's been ruff!  As of November 2016, we are no longer accepting guests with pets.  We are currently reconsidering our ability to offer this type of accommodation and rethinking our policies.

Should you wish to travel with your pet, please contact Grand Bark Pet Boutique & Home First Pet Sitters to see if they can offer overnight stays for your dog while the humans stay with us.

We are very aware that in this 1891 house we are temporary tenants and should act to keep this period home with a mind towards its future after us.  That being said, we want to invite you and your canine companion to enjoy our hospitality and Elora.  In comparison to other dog-friendly places, we've been called dog-picky but that's okay.  We've found that most people traveling with their furry companions are perfectly fine with our rules and understand that the house needs to be respected.  You don't buy 100 year old 10 inch high baseboards at the local hardware store!

Is your dog B&B friendly?  Good behaviour is expected, towards other guests, other dogs and the house.  Of course we know accidents will happen, but you know your dog and what s/he can tolerate and how you expect him/her to behave.

Our dog policy:

Stays must be for 2 or more nights, due to the amount of cleaning involved when you depart.

There will be an additional charge of $30 to your final room rate to cover the extra housekeeping after you leave (YOU know how dog hair gets on EVERYTHING!).

Excessive barking or any aggression will not be tolerated.  You will be asked to kennel your pet elsewhere at your expense.

All dogs must be housetrained and reliable.

All dogs must be crate-trained and you must bring your own crate.

You may not leave your dog unattended in your room unless s/he is crated and quiet.

Only one dog per room (maximum 60 pounds please) unless you've discussed it with us.

There is no backyard available so all doggy duties must be taken care of off property.  Of course you have to clean up after your pet when out on walks; we'll show you where to place your poop bags.

If an accident happens, please inform us immediately so that we can clean up with appropriate cleaning supplies.  We reserve the right to inspect your room if we suspect urine, feces, damage, etc...  If there is damage, by bringing your dog you agree to cover replacement charges.

We ask that dogs not sleep on the beds and not be allowed on the furniture.  If you know your dog will insist on sleeping on your bed, please bring a blanket to protect our bed linens.

We're eager to introduce you to Grand Bark Pet Boutique & Home First Pet Sitters!  They offer
pet sitting and dog walking services, including hourly rates for visitors from out of town.  They're
just a short walk from our door, at 153 Geddes St., so you can leave your dog in their care when
    you go out.

All dogs must be pre-approved by us, through a detailed questionnaire over the phone.

To ensure the well-being of all the dogs that stay with us, we ask that your dog be vaccinated for the following:

- Rabies
- Distemper
- Adenovirus
- Parainfluenza
- Parvovirus
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough)

More importantly, we require that s/he be given a preventative for ticks and fleas before arriving.

(If your dog is elderly and does not have his/her shots or preventative due to health concerns, please speak with us.)

Please call us to talk about bringing your pet: 226-369-0376.

Our Fox Hole room is the preferred room for guests traveling with their canine companions.  Notice the wolves and other canines populating the walls in this room and you'll know your four-footed friend is welcome.

Roomy enough to let your pup have his own bedding (please bring your own) and with space for water and food dishes (supplied), this room is also at the end of the hallway so a little bit of noise is okay but of course respect our other guests!

For stays longer than 3 days, we will clean your room to keep on top of the dog hair.

Dog beds are not provided but extra towels (especially for those rainy days) are available, just ask or help yourself to the pile in our sun room.

We are dog lovers and enjoy the pleasure of living with our canine companions so if you need anything during your stay please let us know!
